LOS ANGELES, CA, November 20, 2017 – “Cinderella the Cat,” the Italian animated feature film from Mad Entertainment and Rai Cinema (Rai Com Distribution) and directed by Alessandro Rak, Ivan Cappiello, Marino Guarnieri and Dario Sansone, has been named recipient of the ‘Capri European Best Animated Feature of the Year' award, it was announced here today by Academy Award®-nominated director Lina Wertmuller, honorary president of 'Capri Hollywood – The International Film Festival'. Simultaneously it was revealed that “Penalty, a pro-immigration short by Aldo Iuliano will receive the 2017 ‘Capri Best Short Film of the Year’ award. Both films been submitted for Academy Award® consideration and will be presented to the Hollywood entertainment community on November 27th with a special screening at Hollywood & Highland’s TLC Chinese Six Theatre complex. ‘Cinderella” producer Maria Carolina Terzi will be in attendance.
The event is presented by the Los Angeles, Italia Festival in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy, the Italian Trade Commission and the Italian Institute of Culture in Los Angeles. The film “Cinderella the Cat,” which will have its Oscar® qualifying run December 9-16 at Laemmle’s Music Hall Theatre in Beverly Hills, is an innovative and highly entertaining film, which won the ‘Pascinetti Critics Award’ at the 2017 Venice Film Festival, is a reinterpretation of the classic Cinderella tale set in a futuristic yet unlikely Naples. It’s a fairy tale with noir vibes, in a retro feel where the archetypes are adapted to modernity. Produced by Luciano Stella and Maria Carolina Terzi, the “Cinderella the Cat” features the voices of Alessandro Gassmann, Massimiliano Gallo, and Maria Pia Calzone, along with an original soundtrack showcasing contemporary Neapolitan musical talents.
“Penalty, a Freak Factory, Rai Cinema, Rai Fiction, and People Artistic production in association with Inn-A-Circle Productions won the Migro Award at the 2017 Sedicioto International Film Festival. The film is set in the middle of nowhere, where a group of guys play a game of football. In doing so they discover that at stake is much more than a simple victory.
“With its slick, creative animation and a very cool yet sinister score, ‘Cinderella the Cat’ takes a classic tale and creates a dynamic cinema noir world against the canvas of Naples that should be very attractive to adult animation lovers,” said Festival founder and producer Pascal Vicedomini. “Our honoring the film with the ‘Capri European Best Animated Feature of the Year’ award is extremely satisfying because the movie personifies Italian artistry at its best.”
Vicedomini continued: “The drama, ‘Penalty,’ deals with the very pertinent subject of immigration, which is a headline grabbing story of today. We are delighted to be introducing both of these Italian films to an American audience on November 27th.”
This is the fourth honor that 'Capri, Hollywood 2017' has announced so far. The Festival has already presented British producer and director Trudie Styler with the ‘Person of the Year Award,’ named Argentinian Graciela Rodriguez as recipient of the ‘Educational Award’ for the movie “Beyond the Sun,” where Pope Francis makes a special appearance, and “Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of My Life” as ‘Documentary of the Year.”
The awards to ''Cinderella the Cat'' and “Penalty” will be presented to the movies’ directors during the 22nd edition of Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival, which runs from December 26, 2017 to January 2, 2018. This year’s Festival will be presided over by Oscar®-winning Italian make-up artist Alessandro Bertolazzi. The event, which is referred to as Italy’s springboard for the international awards season by bringing a number of celebrities and awaited premieres to the Gulf of Naples, will be dedicated to the beauty and talent of Elizabeth Taylor.
